The collaboration between the street-artist 13 bis and Roger-Viollet started with a professional exchange, when 13 bis asked Roger-Viollet to provide him with the images needed to create some of his works.
Out of admiration for his work, whose artistic territory is most often the street, and out of a desire to make people discover the Roger-Viollet collections in a different way, the gallery gave him carte blanche to exhume seemingly disparate motifs from his famous green boxes with millions of photographs, making them meet and assemble, to make the marvelous projections of his imagination emerge in paintings.

13 bis practices the art of collage as the Surrealists and especially Max Ernst, have popularized it. The technique is similar, consisting of cutting up pre-existing documents, of various origins, to take fragments which will then be associated in an fortuitous way as in the famous Songs of Maldoror by Lautréamont.
His borrowings from engraving are not insignificant since they place him in the tradition of the artists creators of phantasmatic and unusual worlds, such as Dürer or Brueghel, and of course Bosch, master of weirdness.
Further on, ancient mythology seems to be a source from which the collagist constantly draws to create his own symbols, his gods, his goddesses and his metamorphoses.
Not so far away, the "graceful monstrosities" of Grandville, whose Animated Flowers have pollinated some of the works in 13 bis, are summoned.
